C O R N D O G

now, come over here
stand there — right there
stand next to me;
this thing we’re looking at
divides water routes,
nuclear scientists call it an estuary;
the elements of the weather can only be understood by fairies
and that’s only after they’ve studied every cloud
inside and out
but I brought you here to discuss cows,
the ones that go inside your mouth:
the meats.

This poem was written on December 20, 2016 and is “dedicated” to Rick Perry, the current nominee for Secretary of Energy. It has been edited several times since.
